Feed in Tariff

What is a Feed-in Tariff?

• Feed-In Tariffs, typically referred to as FIT and also known as the Clean Energy Cash-back, are a government incentive to encourage property owners to create their own 'green electricity'.
• It is a payment made through your utility company for every kilowatt of solar electricity you as a property owner produce.
• The UK Government has a legally binding target to reach 15 % of total renewable energy by 2020.  Since the introduction of the FIT in April 2010 it has encouraged over 80,000 pv installations in the UK.
• The FIT can be paid to homeowners, landlords, tenants, businesses, schools, hospitals, farmers or solar investors.

How much money do you receive from the Feed-in-Tariff?

The tariffs are set by the Government and paid through the Utility Companies. 

Currently these tarrifs are:

• Guaranteed for 25 years from installation.
• Retail Price Index Linked
• Tax Free on domestic installations

The rates set post December 12 2011 are:

Per Kilowatt hour generated :

• Up to 4kW Retrofit       -     21p       
• Up to 4kW New Build   -     21.p       
• Between 4 - 10kW       -    16.8p       
• Between 10 - 50kW     -    15.2p

Although installations commissioned after 12 December 2011 qualify for a 21p FIT rate, they will receive 43.3p per kWh until April 1st 2012.

Additional Incentives

The FIT is paid for each Kilowatt of solar pv generated electricity.

Additionally the householder is able to:

• Use all the electricity generated (thereby saving on importing that electricity from the grid via your utility provider)
• Currently receive an additional 3.1p for each 'green' Kilowatt exported back to the grid.  Until the implementation of 'smart meters' the Government currently assumes that 50% is 'not used' and therefore 'exported' back to the grid.

Qualifications

To qualify for a FIT payment, the installation must be carried out by a fully accredited MCS installer (microgeneration certification scheme), to which Your Power are fully accredited.
